We have heard from so many Girl Scout/Boy Scout leaders, teachers, coaches, youth leaders that have found great success in the Spread the Bread service-learning bread program. This bread project is as pliable as the dough and the results are undeniably powerful.
Simply put, youth bake bread-any kind of bread- and then wrap the bread with love, hope, gratitude and then decide where and to whom to spread those breads. Could be to the local police or fire departments. Could be to a veteran family member friend, neighbor. Could be to someone serving in the military. Could be to someone who is sick. Could be someone who is in need of a smile. Could be someone who is lonely, tired or hungry.
There have been many variations on the project. Some groups bake bread together, others bake bread at home and then bring the decorated breads to their teacher, coach, teammates and classmates and then they SPREAD that bread together.
Magically, the project inspires our youth to build community by reaching in and then reaching out to "bake a difference." Download a Bread Starter Kit and learn more about the bread cirriculum and ways in which our youth can earn coveted bread patches, designed by renowned SMILE artist, Bren Bataclan.

BAKING A DIFFERENCE in OHIO....
"The veterans at the VFW post were so excited that we wanted to share bread with them! They kept offering us money. My daughter just said that it was to thank them for their service and explained about Spread the Bread. They were happy to hear about your project! Thank you for the ADORABLE patches!"
THANK YOU, Linda Geist, Lori Long and Girl Scout Troop 800 for baking a difference!
