We are all connected to the tragic events of 9/11. As the years pass, we look for new ways to remember and honor those lost on that day. This year, with bread and a message of remembrance and hope, we remember to never forget the significance of every life taken on September 11th.
We are raising funds to send 2999 breads to our TROOPS in remembrance of the 2999 lives lost because of 9/11. Our HOPE is to get them to the TROOPS for the holidays. We need to supply: ingredients, packaging, materials to make 2999 individual memorial cards to celebrate each life, and then SPREAD THE BREAD overseas, to as many TROOPS as possible. Your donation is truly meaningful and helpful....
The “Never Forget” Memorial Bread Project is an opportunity to get back into the warmth of the kitchen, find a favorite bread recipe, and to bake this bread to pay tribute to a life lost in the 9/11 attacks. The bread should be wrapped with love, tied with a special note of dedication to this individual, and then spread in their memory to honor a hero or to help someone in need.
The first step is to find a favorite bread recipe. Through tradition, culture, memory or taste we are all connected to a B-R-E-A-D. Find that bread and take some time to bake that bread with others. While your baking, talk about our world and what happened on September 11th.
The second step is to honor a life lost through your bread. On September 11th, 2974 people died as a direct result of the attacks with 24 missing and presumed dead. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals from 90 different countries. You can link to the 9/11 registry below and learn more about the life of a victim. Then find your own way to pay tribute to this person on a unique card that you'll attach to your bread. Your card could be a prayer, a poem, a message, artwork--anything that you think reflects this celebrated life.
The third step is to decide where or to whom you'll spread your bread. Spread the Bread celebrates the gifting of bread to honor our heroes or help someone in need. So decide to whom you'll spread this "memorial bread" to "bake a difference." The offering is profound; sharing the gifts of a life lost on 9/11 and also honoring a local hero or sharing this bread with those in need. No surprise that bread is the universal symbol of peace and fellowship.
The fourth step is to share your bread story. Think about sharing your bread gifting with our bread-spreading community. Some ideas might be: sending us a picture of your bread, or your memorial card of hope and remembrance, or the person that you gifted your bread to. Maybe it's a lesson learned or an experience that happened during this project. We'd love to collect these stories and offer them back to our world as another way of paying tribute and living our promise to NEVER FORGET.
